3D Imaging at Crown Pointe Dentistry
It's hard to believe that we've been in the new facility for 6 weeks! Occasionally we will use this blog to describe some new and exciting technologies that we have added to Crown Pointe Dentistry.
We recently introduced Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) into our practice. What is CBCT? CBCT is a revolutionary diagnostic tool in the field of dentistry that allows us to see the anatomy of the head and neck like never before. An articulating arm moves around the patients head and takes multiple small pictures or "slices" of the region of interest. Once the image is reassembled on a high powered computer, we are able to view the bones, teeth, and supporting structures in vivid 3D.
This is beneficial in many ways; we can now see problems that are very difficult to diagnose on standard 2D imagery. We can study the airway and determine if you are likely to suffer from apnea, which is a very dangerous condition that inhibits normal breathing during sleep. We can study diseases of the joint or identify complex tooth anatomy prior to initiating treatment. Implant surgeries become much more predictable by being able to "see" in three dimensions exactly where the implant can be safely placed.
Up until recently, CBCT is a technology that has been typically reserved for specialty practices such as Oral Surgery and Endodontics. We at Crown Pointe Dentistry are proud to be able to offer this technology to our patients for improved patient care.
