Initial Adjustment Period

It's normal to experience some discomfort, soreness, and increased saliva flow when you first wear dentures.

Your mouth and facial muscles need time to adjust to the new dentures.

Eating

Start with soft foods cut into small pieces.

Chew slowly using both sides of your mouth.

Avoid very hard, sticky, or hot foods initially.

Speaking

Practice reading aloud to help your tongue adjust to the dentures.

Your speech will improve as you become accustomed to the dentures.

Oral Hygiene

Remove and clean your dentures daily with a denture brush and denture cleaner.

Brush your gums, tongue, and palate with a soft-bristled brush before reinserting dentures.

Soak dentures overnight in a denture solution or water.

When to Call

Persistent sore spots or irritation

Difficulty eating or speaking after the adjustment period

Loose or ill-fitting dentures

Cracks or damage to the dentures
